REEF uses a hierarchical 8-digit code system for survey site locations. Each geographic area has its own set of codes. When completing a survey, it is important that you fill in as much of the 8-digit code as possible. If the site that you surveyed is not currently on our list, then please provide a good geographical description and the latitude/longitude if possible.

Tropical Western Atlantic Zone Code List -- TWA
(Florida, Bahamas, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, South Atlantic States)

Northeast Zone Code List -- NE
(Virginia - Eastern Canada)

Pacific Coast Zone Code List -- PAC
(California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia)

Tropical Eastern Pacific Zone Code List -- TEP
(Gulf of California to the Galapagos Islands)

Hawaiian Islands -- HAW
(incl. NWHI and Johnston Atol)

South Pacific -- SOP
