GEOGRAPHIC ZONE CODE
MAP SEARCH RESULTS
REEF uses a hierarchical 8-digit code system for survey site locations. Each
geographic area has its own set of codes. When completing a survey, it is important
that you fill in as much of the 8-digit code as possible. If the site that you
surveyed is not currently on our list, then please provide a good geographical description
and the latitude/longitude if possible.
One digit: Region -- Biogeographical Region (ex. California)
Two digits: Sub-region -- Sub-division of Region (ex. Southern California)
Four digits: Zone -- An area where a REEF Map will indicate sites (ex. Northern Channel
Islands)
Six digits: Sub-zone -- Sub-division of Zone (ex. Santa Cruz Island)
Eight digits: Site -- A reporting location (ex. Cat Rock)
