TROPICAL EASTERN PACIFIC

GEOGRAPHIC ZONE CODES

REEF uses a hierarchical 8-digit code system for survey site locations.  Each geographic area has its own set of codes.  When completing a survey, it is important that you fill in as much of the 8-digit code as possible.  If the site that you surveyed is not currently on our list, then please provide a good geographical description and the latitude/longitude if possible.

One Digit:     Region -- Biogeographical Region (ex. Central Gulf of California)
Two Digits:   Sub-Region -- Sub-division of a Regions (ex. Punto Granito - Bahia San Pedro)
Four Digits:   Zone -- Area where a map will indicate sites (ex. Himalaya Bay)
Eight Digits:   Site -- A reporting location (ex. White Rock)
