Free fish ID course on the boat and survey dives with REEF volunteers.  Please arrive at 8am, boat leaves at 8:30 for the AM trip.  For the PM trip, please arrive at 12:30pm, boat leaves at 1:00.

REEF GAFC at Beaver Harbour, NB

  • FREE fish ID seminar offered in the weeks leading up to the event, at the local Dive Shack, to refresh or learn fish ID skills.

GAFC PNW: Porteau Cove Fish ID class/dives & BBQ

GAFC Shore-Based Field Surveys: Join Ocean Pro Divers REEF Representatives for a shore dive or snorkel and learn how to do a REEF Survey!

  • Free
  • Participants will need to bring all their own gear including a buddy and tanks if diving
  • Ocean Pro Divers will offer a 25% discount on all gear rentals or fish ID books for participants.
  • Loaner REEF Slates and Fish ID books will be available, and REEF Survey Forms will be provided.  

Social Event - BBQ - Survey dive/snorkel will be followed by a BBQ for all participants, friends and family.  BBQ fee is $10.

REEF GAFC at Deer Island, NB

Event Type: Dives
Region: Northeast

There will be a GAFC: Great Annual Fish Count (our second) at Deer Island Campground at the following slack tides:

High Tide is 10:02 and Low Tide is 16:10, all times are NB times.

  • Divers are also encouraged to do the Early Drift.  All dives are for Advanced divers (due to currents, low vis and low temps) or should be lead by experienced local divers. 
  • There will be giveaways for divers.
  • Just like last year all divers will be encouraged to go to Spirit of the Island Restaurant for a meal. 
  • A free Fish ID seminar will be organized at The Dive Shack in July.

REEF GAFC at Tommy's / Carrying Cove, NB

This is a REEF GAFC: Great Annual Fish Count survey dive at Tommy's / Carrying Cove.  This dive site is an easy entry, low current site, great for new divers as well as those with more experience.

There will also be an ID class held at The Dive Shack prior to this dive. Stay tuned.

New England Aquarium's GAFC

This will be the 12th year for the event, and we consistantly have the largest single-day fish count in the country!  Dives will be conducted all over New England in the morning, then divers will meet at Stage Fort Park for a BBQ, raffle prizes and to tally the survey numbers.

Great Annual Fish Count (GAFC) at CoCoView Resort, Roatan, Honduras

Region: Caribbean / Bahamas

 

This is a month long GAFC event presented at CocoView Resort, Roatan, Honduras for the 7th year in a row. The program will begin on Sunday and conclude Friday evening for four consecutive weeks starting June 20th and continuing daily through July 19th. CoCoView guests will enjoy several free multimedia Fish ID seminars for novices to advanced fish watchers during their stay, including one seminar on the unusual fish found in Roatan waters.

 

This event will allow guests at CoCo View to get involved by attending the free Fish ID seminars, participate in completing post dive fish surveys, and participate in the additional activities such as locating the "Wanted" fish du jour, identification of fish within a family, a tally of sighted species for each of the four weeks and more educational fun and prizes.

PNW: Fish ID Seminar, Surveys, and Pot Luck at Salt Water State Park

Join in for a fun day at the Salt Water State Park, conduct a survey dive or two and meet for a pot luck barbecue between dives.

Grills will be provided, as well as hot dogs and buns. Bring a pot luck dish to share and your own beverages. REEF slates and survey paper will be available. Join us between 10 am and 4 pm. FL Keys: Fish ID Seminar at REEF HQ
