PNW GAFC: Fun Fish Survey Dives - Washington

FUN FISH Survey Dives

Whether or not you took our earlier class (see Wednesday July 9th) take your new knowledge of PNW fishes and join us for survey/ fun dives to be held on July 12th in the Hoodsport area of the Hood Canal in Washington.  REEF Underwater survey paper and Slates will be available at Sund Rock dive site in Hoodsport, Washington at 9 am. Fish ID Reference books and resources will be available at Sund Rock Dive site. Note: There is a fee for diving at the Sund Rock site, stop at Hoodsport and Dive to register and obtain a permit and directions to the dive site.Anyone can participate; (and attendance at the ID class is not required to participate in the dives). TWA GAFC: Fort Lauderdale Fish ID class

Thursday, July 10th:  Free TWA Fish ID class, approx time 2 hours.  Open to public.  Start time 6 pm.  Divers will have option to sign-up for PADI Project Aware Fish ID specialty (cost of the course is not included)

Sunday, July 13th: GAFC Kick-off – Meet at Gold Coast Scuba at 8 am.  Divers will go out on their own in buddy groups all along the Lauderdale by the Sea reef line and conduct their own surveys.  All divers are welcome to attend, including those who are already REEF fish surveyors.  After the morning dives, meet at 12 pm for a cook-out at the Windjammer Resort.  Divers will provide their own tanks, dive gear and survey paper. (Available at shop).  Student divers get a shop discount.

Survey divers will continue to conduct fish surveys at Lauderdale by the Sea for the entire month of July.  Results will be summarized and presented during the Lauderdale by the Sea “Bug Fest” Fish ID presentation at the end of the month.

PNW GAFC: Fish ID Class Oregon

Fish Identification Class to be held Wednesday evening July 9th from 6 pm to 9pm at Hydrosports Dive and Travel ; located at 3846 River Road North Keizer, Oregon. The Fish Id class is free of charge and will introduce the basics of fish identification and the 40 most common fish encountered in the Pacific North West. ID Class will be taught by Carol and Gregg Cline,  Expert Fish Surveyors who are both part of the REEF Advanced Assessment Team for the PNW.

 

Come  join us and participate in the 2014 Great Annual Fish Count. Hydrosports  Dive and Travel, a REEF Field Station will host two activities as part of the annual events held during the month of July. The Great Annual Fish Count Activities are held each year to introduce divers and snorkelers to fish watching , becoming citizen scientists and to increase awareness and appreciation of our marine resources.

GAFC PNW: Porteau Cove Fish ID class/dives & BBQ

GAFC Shore-Based Field Surveys: Join Ocean Pro Divers REEF Representatives for a shore dive or snorkel and learn how to do a REEF Survey!

  • Free
  • Participants will need to bring all their own gear including a buddy and tanks if diving
  • Ocean Pro Divers will offer a 25% discount on all gear rentals or fish ID books for participants.
  • Loaner REEF Slates and Fish ID books will be available, and REEF Survey Forms will be provided.  

Social Event - BBQ - Survey dive/snorkel will be followed by a BBQ for all participants, friends and family.  BBQ fee is $10.
