Some type of sea cucumber?

Images:

Spotted a few of these at 60 ft near a wreck off the southern coast of NC.   Was about 6-8 inches long.  This is only part of it.  Note it extends down a hole.  Saw another one that as I looked at it, it started retracting.  Reminded me of how a tiger tail sea cucumber retracts except much smaller.  What is it?

? Hairy Sea Cucumber

The Hairy Sea Cucumber (Sclerodactyla briareus) is quite common in North Carolina, but I'm not 100% sure that is what it is. Apparently there are only 3-4 species found there, so you should be hopefully able to narrow it down... There's a book called North Carolina's Amazing Coast (which I don't have), which may help? One other thing, "a Key to the Sea Cucumbers" by DL Pawson on a DNR Gov't Website, if you're feeling really energetic. Good luck :)

Thanks, I will check it out.
