I would really appreciate any help identifying the fish in the picture. It was seen in the Turks and Caicos Islands. I have looked in reef books and online resources, but have been unable to find a match. I snorkel in the Caribbean a couple times a year and have not seen the fish before (or since it was found in 2010). I have searched by body shape, color, depth, location, etc. It did not move when I swam by and it stayed in the same spot for quite some time. At first glance, I thought it might be a barracuda, but no pictures (including the juvenile stage) seem to match. THANK YOU for any help!!
Great Barracuda
You were right: That's a juvenile Great Barracuda. Small 'cuda often have dark bars and blotches on their body.
