Shy fish

Images:

I saw this fish (the one behind the White Grunt) while diving last week in Jupiter, FL.  It was between 70 and 80 feet in a high profile reef.

My apologies, as I couldn't get a good photo of this shy fish.

I don't have any idea what it is, so I was hoping someone here might be able to help out.

Thanks!

Allison

Black Margate

It's a Black Margate. They like to hide in dark areas during the day and venture out to feed at night. The blubbery lips and flared pectoral and pelvic fins are two distinctive features visible in your shot.

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. There were a few others nearby, but I'm accustomed to identifying them by the dark patch behind the pectoral fin.  Proof you can always learn something.

Thanks!
