I apologize for the poor photo. I think of sand tilefish as on-the-bottom (benthic) fish, but this fish and three similar fish were all swimming a few feet above the bottom (demersal), at Snapper Ledge, buoy SL-1, Key Largo, Florida, Tuesday, February 5, 2013. The pictured fish was about two leet long, the longest of the four fish. Depth 34 feet. Bottom temperature about 75 degrees. The caudal fin (tail) was remarkably lunate. Is it a sand tilefish?
Thank You,
Marty
Sand Tilefish
Yes, that's a Sand Tilefish. The slender body and dark upper half of the tail are good distinguishing features.

Thank you.
You're still the best.
Deeply Grateful,
Marty
