2 Unknown pipefish

Images:

Hi,

This little twiggy looking pipefish was spotted floating along with other grass bits in about 3 feet of water, north shore of St. John in the VI. It was about 1-2 inches long. Settled on the bottom for a bit, then floated off again.

The other was also on about 3 feet of water moving along the bottom through the rocks and rubble.

If anyone could steer me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Regards,

pipefishes

the twiggy one is Cosmocampus brachycephalus Crested Pipefish, tiny with very short snout, stout body, parallel brown lines.

the second one is probably Halicampus crinitus the banded pipefish- often with colored irregular bars and a relatively short snout.
