Spotted this in about 15 feet of water, 81 degrees.. in St. John, USVI. I think it was about 12" long... I thought it might be a Scrawled Filefish, but the lack of blue-green spots and the tail not opened.. makes me wonder..
You are correct, it is a scrawled filefish. Although the blue and yellow phase is one of their most common and beautiful patterns, they can change to other patterns to suit their mood.
