The Indo-Pacific Red Lionfish have 18 venomous spines and voracious appetites. They were introduced to the Tropical Western Atlantic (TWA) through the aquarium trade and their population has rapidly expanded. Research shows that sustained removals can control populations. They are native to the Central Indo-Pacific (CIP) and invasive in the Tropical Western Atlantic.
