Connecting people to oceans.

Since 1990, REEF has been helping people build meaningful connections with the oceans and empowering them to make a difference. This work is essential for marine conservation and the future of our blue planet.

Conservation can't wait. As we look ahead to the next 30 years, there is a great sense of urgency to take action for the oceans. We’re excited to share our plans to build a state-of-the-art Marine Conservation Center at the REEF Campus in Key Largo, Florida. This $5 million initiative is a bold step for the future of marine conservation, and REEF is committed to leading change for healthy oceans. The Marine Conservation Center is a critical next chapter in our mission to protect marine life and habitats.

Why here? Why now?

The best way to understand the importance of protecting coastal communities is by experiencing these places firsthand.

More than 5 million people visit the Florida Keys each year, and the Center will uniquely serve in motivating people to take action to protect the ocean.

In the Florida Keys, the ocean is our classroom.

Since 1990, REEF’s home has been the Florida Keys. Our 30-plus-year legacy as a global leader in conservation is rooted in Key Largo, and REEF Campus is a central hub for visitors and locals alike.

As one of the premier US destinations to experience the ocean up close, the Florida Keys are an ideal place to foster meaningful and long-lasting connections to the marine environment.

The Marine Conservation Center is...

A transformative launchpad for ocean stewards of tomorrow

The oceans are for all, and there is a place for everyone in marine conservation. As a gathering place for a global community of ocean stewards, the Center brings together people together of all ages and backgrounds, inspiring and motivating them to make a difference.

Visitors - both in person and online - will become empowered as citizen scientists, and are equipped with the knowledge, tools, and resources to act as guardians of our blue planet.

More than a museum or education center

Using creatively-designed exhibits, signage, interactive displays, and media, the Center will amplify conservation stories that engage, inspire, challenge, and educate.

With five distinct learning areas, we are providing dynamic, flexible, and adaptive programming that resonates with diverse audiences.

A nexus for research, arts, and ocean expertise

Renowned leaders, scientists, researchers, and arts and humanities scholars convene at the Center to collaborate and address the challenges facing today’s oceans.

Permanent and rotating exhibits celebrate excellence in scientific innovation, history, humanities, and arts.
