Hi REEF Both photos attached were taken on Oeno Atoll in the Pitcairn Group, South Pacific outside the reef, in about 40 feet, subject to some surge. The ??dottyback characteristically ducked in and out of a little cranny, the ??damsel was like any damsel out and about. Both on a day dive. Any help with id is appreciated HighlandsBob

2 unidentified South Pacific reef fish
Photo 1. the ?? damsel looks to me like Johnston Damsel. Plectroglyphidodon johnstonianus. I see them alot while diving here in Papua New Guinea, but they're also distributed elsewhere in Hawaii to Pitcairn Is., French Polynesia, Japan and Eastern Australia. It could be this fish.
