REEF Conservation Creatures are iconic marine species from REEF’s Volunteer Fish Survey Project regions. These marine creatures highlight the diversity of ocean ecosystems and encourage understanding and respect for marine life. We hope they inspire you to join REEF and learn more about the marine environment.
You can chose to simply purchase the plush ($10), or symbolically adopt he Conservation Creature ($40) and help further REEF's marine conservation mission. Your adoption comes complete with the plush, a personalized adoption certificate, sticker, and animal fact sheet that provides information about the critter's habitat, characteristics, potential threats, and global distribution in REEF's Survey Project regions.
Bonnethead Shark (Sphyrna tiburo) are closely related to Hammerhead Sharks, but are much smaller. Their heads are narrow and rounded at the front edge, which gives them the nickname “shovelhead shark.” They are found in tropical and sub-tropical waters on both coasts of North America, including REEF’s TEP, TWA, SAS, and NE regions.
