Thanks for your interest in the Lionfish Collecting and Handling Workshop in Orlando, Florida. This workshop will be held at the University of Central Florida Biology Field Research Center (Ara Drive, Orlando, 32826. Visit http://map.ucf.edu/ for campus map, the Biology Field Research Center is Building 92 on the map) on June 18th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The workshop will cover the history of the invasion, lionfish biology, ecological impacts, venomology, how to avoid getting stung, first aid for stings, and recommended techniques for collection, handling and filleting. This workshop is made possible through funding from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Please note: minors attending should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Questions? On June 19th Sea Dogs Dive Center in New Smyrna Beach will be hosting lionfish hunting dives. If you're interested in participating in these dives please contact the dive center at 386-424-1644, space is limited! Or you can go out on your own boat and remove lionfish on the 19th. Following the dives, there will be a weigh-in and lionfish cook out at the Marine Discovery Center at New Smyrna Beach starting at 4 pm. Come out and join us for filleting demonstrations, lionfish cook-out, and more!
