Explore. Discover. Make a Difference.
Ocean Explorers Expeditions offer compelling itineraries full of opportunities for experiential learning adventures in the beautiful Florida Keys. They’re the perfect experience for groups to make learning and environmental engagement fun. Expeditions use citizen science to take scientific exploration from abstract to tangible. Expeditions provide an overview of ocean-focused citizen science programs while engaging in hands-on field activities.
Your home base for your expedition is the REEF Ocean Exploration Center for Marine Conservation, a vibrant hub for ocean conservation, citizen science, and marine education in the heart of Key Largo, Florida!
The Florida Keys are the only living coral barrier reef in North America and the third largest in the world. The Ocean Exploration Center serves as a gateway to the underwater world, inspiring visitors of all ages to explore, discover, and make a difference. Nestled in the historic and beautiful Florida Keys, our campus features beautiful grounds surrounded by a native hammock. You can explore the Native Plants and Heritage Trail and historic buildings.
Expeditions are led by REEF staff who have the experience and knowledge to provide an extensive, all-encompassing experience that exposes participants to various marine science-based initiatives.
Our Expeditions will help define what participants can do as individuals to make a difference in the health of our oceans. Ocean Explorers Expeditions give groups meaningful connections and real-world learning. Expeditions vary in length from a single day to an entire week. They include educational programming plus meaningful and engaging activities that support group learning such as kayaking, snorkeling and diving.
Expeditions are perfect for schools, colleges, and universities, clubs, families and even staff retreats! If you're interested in scheduling an Ocean Explorers Expedition, contact explorers@REEF.org or call 305-852-0030 to start your adventure!
"This is the fifth time I’ve done an Expedition program with REEF, and it was outstanding as always. REEF makes it easy to create memorable field experiences for my students." Professor Horner-Reber, Georgia State University
"The REEF organization was so easy to work with to and create a customized educational week for our group of students at a reasonable price, and made sure our week worked logistically for our snorkeling and kayaking outdoor activities, and ensured that our indoor activities such as the lionfish day were just as engaging! Our instructors, Shelby and Rose, were knowledgeable about all concepts and made the learning and activities so much fun for our group, and I have never seen my students so invested in wanting to pass a test before to get their certifications! I cannot wait to take a school group back down to the Keys and spend more time at REEF and I could not recommend working with them more!" Jennifer Jedd, Nonnewaug High School (Woodbury, CT)
