We’re excited to share the experiences of two incredible educators who participated in the 2024 REEF Educator in the Field Fellowship.

Susan Hahn is a middle school teacher in Boca Raton, FL, and Anthony Aceves is a high school teacher near Portland, OR. Over the summer, Susan and Anthony attended the REEF Field Survey Trip to Bonaire, where they conducted fish surveys, learned about coral reef ecology, and engaged with citizen scientists in meaningful ways. Throughout the trip, they learned how to identify Caribbean fish species and discussed environmental topics like invasive species and human impacts on marine ecosystems. They returned to their classrooms with new ideas and inspiration to spark their students' curiosity about the ocean.

Susan and Anthony are excited to incorporate REEF’s interactive marine conservation lessons into their programs, fostering a new generation of oceanadvocates. We can’t wait to see the impact of their experience in classrooms and communities!
