A fish as beautiful as it is destructive; invasive lionfish have had dramatic impacts on marine ecosystems due to their high reproductive rate and voracious appetites. These visually stunning fish have characteristic red and white stripes and long, fanlike spines and fins.
We are thrilled to be joining the Waterlust Trivia Challenge this semester! Put your marine sceince knowledge to the test at the REEF Ocean Exploration Center. The subject matter will span all aspects of marine science- such as marine biology, physical oceanography, marine chemistry, marine geology, atmospheric science etc. The questions that will challenge players with a graduate-student level of education, so creating diverse teams with members with a wide variety of knowledge is encouraged. Teams may have between 1-6 participants.

REEF's 17th annual Florida Keys Lionfish Derby will culminate on Sunday April 26, 2026 at the REEF Ocean Exploration Center. This will include a lionfish weigh-in, awards, and conservation science and arts festival open to the public.
As part of the 2026 Florida Keys Lionfish Derby & Arts Festival REEF will host the Derby Captains Meeting at Sharkeys Sharkbite Grill, April 23, 2026.
This REEF Lionfish Collection & Handling Workshop include a classroom portion that covers invasion history, lionfish biology, ecological impacts, current research and collection techniques.

Fiji is known as a hotspot for diving, with massive schools of pelagics such as Bigeye Trevally, Scad, and Barracuda, Gray Reef and Whitetip Reef Sharks, and unusual creatures like the Leaf Scorpionfish and Ornate Ghost Pipefish.
