You did your first REEF survey on September 23, 2012 at La Muela Angel Rock in the Tropical Eastern Pacific. What got you started with REEF?

I was looking for volunteer work that involved scuba diving. After taking trips with two other volunteer groups, I found REEF and it was a perfect match!

When and where did you do your 1,000th Survey? Can you tell us anything memorable about your 1,000th survey?

I did my 1,000th survey on a REEF Field Survey Trip to Lembeh Resort. It was on the last day of the trip, so I was very excited that I made it!

In which regions have you done surveys? What experience levels are you in those other regions? Do you have any favorite dive spots in those places?

I have done surveys in the CIP, SOP, and TWA, where I am a Level 5 surveyor; in the EAM and IORS, where I am Level 4; and in Hawaii, where I am Level 3. Indonesia is my favorite place to dive, but anywhere I’m diving is the best!

What are some of your favorite fishes or invertebrates?  What makes them your favorite?

Any fish that is new to me - it’s the treasure hunt!  Diving with Whale sharks in the Philippines was amazing, and the big mantas are always breathtaking to behold.

What is your favorite thing/memory about REEF and the Volunteer Survey Project?

Sharing the experience with like-minded divers and contributing to citizen science. Also, the friends I’ve made in the REEF family.

What are your goals with REEF for the future?

To continue diving and surveying as long as I can.

Feel free to share anything else about yourself and your diving adventures!

I’d like to get a survey done in every region!
