There will be a GAFC: Great Annual Fish Count (our second) at Deer Island Campground at the following slack tides:

High Tide is 10:02 and Low Tide is 16:10, all times are NB times.

  • REEF Representatives will be onboard and ready to help divers conduct REEF surveys.
  • FREE fish ID seminar offered in the weeks leading up to the event, at the local Dive Shack, to refresh or learn fish ID skills.

Join REEF for an evening of eating and entertainment at Piccolo Ristorante. The event will include a four course tapas style lionfish dinner, complimentary wine and beer, lionfish education, filleting demonstration, and cooking instruction by Piccolo's very own Chef Andres Avayu.

REEF interns were invited to present a Fish Identification presentation in the Dagny Johnson Lecture Series 'The Delicate Balance of Nature 2013' from 730-830pm at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park Visitor Center located in Key Largo (MM102.5 Oceanside). Admission is free, but seating is limited.  Please bring a cushion for added seating comfort. During this lecture, REEF interns will teach the public how to properly identify common reef fish in the Keys, and how to get involved with our Volunteer Fish Survey project!

REEF will have a booth set up at the Nautical Flea Market at Founders Park in Islamorada both Saturday and Sunday starting at 8am. Come visit us to learn about our programs and see what merchandise we have for sale!

This spring's new interns will be presenting a free fish identification presentation at the REEF house (98300 Overseas Hwy, Key Largo, FL 33037).  This event is open to the public and will be presented at 630-730pm.

REEF will have a booth set up at the entrance of Zoo Miami's Python Challenge Awards Event talking about the lionfish invasion.  The event is from 10am-4pm.

We have a full line-up of dive show appearances planned this year. If you are in the area of one of these shows, please stop by the REEF booth to find out what new and exciting things are happening. In 2013, we will be at: Our World Underwater (Chicago, February 15-17), Beneath the Sea (NJ/NY, March 22-23), Northwest Dive & Travel Expo (WA, April 20-21), and Northern California Dive & Travel Expo (Bay Area CA, May 11-12). We are always looking for volunteers to help at the booth.
