As part of the NOAA-funded Coastal Partnership Initiative, REEF has joined forces with Florida SeaGrant to organize and conduct a series of lionfish collecting and handling workshops and hands on training dives in Southeast Florida. REEF Staff trained over 75 divers during recent workshops and dives in the Florida Keys, Miami, and Palm Beach. The project also includes organized removals by local volunteer teams throughout the year.

Scuba Charter to collect/hunt lionfish off shipwrecks in waters around Beaufort, NC. Advanced certification required, Nitrox Certification required. Comfortable diving depths over 100'-130'. Some lionfish collection gear provided, but divers must provide their own gear. Boat leaves at 6:45AM and will return around 4PM. Boat has A/C, freshwater showers, full-sized head, covered deck and sun deck. Divers must provide their own food and snacks.

This workshop is intended for dive professionals and avid recreational divers interested in obtaining a permit to collect lionfish in the Sanctuary Preservation Areas. We will also cover the history and progression of the invasion, lionfish biology and ecology, safe collecting and handling techniques, and first aid.
This article highlights the collaborative efforts of conservationists throughout the Gulf of Mexico and western Atlantic who work to combat the invasive lionfish, including REEF's work to orgnanize removal events such as the Florida Keys Lionfish Derby & Festival.
