Where does the Explorers Program take place?
Land-based programs take place at the REEF Interpretive Center in Key Largo, FL. Field activities take place at sites throughout the Upper Keys and water activities are coordinated with partner organizations in the area.
We can also bring the program to sites throughout South Florida and the Florida Keys.
Do I need to be a REEF member to participate?
It’s not required, but it is recommended. Membership is free and gives you access to the Volunteer Fish Survey project database and other special sections of www.REEF.org.
Who can sign up for REEF Explorers Program?
Programs are open to groups of any kind with 10 or more participants. REEF Ocean Explorers Camp offers the opportunity for individual students to get involved.
We also host community outreach and educational events at our the REEF Interpretive Center. Click here for information on upcoming events.
Do I need any prior knowledge of marine science to participate?
No, our programs are designed to fit the experience level of each group. From beginner to advanced, elementary school to adult professional researchers, our programs can be adapted to meet your needs and interest.

Can we participate in the Volunteer Fish Survey Project, Invasive Lionfish Research Program, and the Marine Ecology Program?
Yes, many groups participate in all programs, experiencing the unique activities and lessons associated with each. We can design a custom itinerary for your group.
How many days will we be in the water?
The time spent in the water is part of a custom program for you and is based on the amount of field experience you would like.
How much does the program cost?
Prices vary depending on the length of the program, number of days and activities you request. We will explain pricing and send a detailed estimate for your specific program prior to a program deposit being made.
We had so much fun with REEF during our Explorers Program, can we return for more advanced training and levels?
Yes! REEF is excited to have past participants return for more fishy fun and education.
