Join us for a FREE marine life education class at the Trans World Radio (TWR) Bonaire Headquarters on Thursday, October 29 at 7:00 pm AST
We’ll be discussing the wonderfully strange world of odd-shaped dwellers: Scorpionfish, Frogfish, and the elusive batfish- some of the reef’s most fascinating and camouflaged residents.
What to Expect:
Learn how to distinguish commonly confused fish species
Explore what it means to be a citizen scientist and how you can contribute to the Volunteer Fish Survey Project
Join us for a FREE marine life education class at the Trans World Radio (TWR) Bonaire Headquarters on Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 pm AST
We’ll continue our series on odd‑shaped swimmers, focusing on drums and croakers, along with a few other fun and quirky species. Dana and I will be co‑teaching, and we’re really looking forward to seeing as many people as possible join us for the presentation.
What to Expect:
Join us for International Coastal Cleanup Day at the Ocean Forest Restoration site in Dagny Johnson State Park.
We’ll spend the morning working together to remove litter and help keep our local coastal environment clean and healthy. Cleanup supplies and water refill stations will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle and bug spray, if possible. Please wear appropriate protective footwear that can get wet.
The address works best for navigation with Google Maps. Event signs will be posted along the highway.
Join REEF for a full day exploring the health and resilience of Florida’s coastal ecosystems and the role each of us can play in understanding and protecting them.
The day begins with a Volunteer Fish Survey Project classroom session, where participants will learn how fish populations and reef communities can serve as indicators of ecosystem health and why long-term monitoring is important. Participants can then put their skills into practice during a guided REEF Fish Survey Project dive or snorkel, collecting observations that contribute to REEF’s citizen science database.
Join us for a free community science lesson and activity in our Science Discovery Classroom! Dive into REEF’s ongoing collaboration with the Cayman Islands Department of Environment and scientists from UC San Diego and Oregon State to study and protect the Nassau Grouper, a keystone Caribbean species. Better understand how stakeholders play a role in species protection.
All ages welcome!
Join us for a free community science lesson and activity in our Science Discovery Classroom! This week learn about the spread of the invasive lionfish in the Florida Keys and how it has impacted the ecosystem. Then, watch an educational lionfish dissection and learn how to get involved in our removal efforts!
All ages are welcome!

What to Expect:
Join us at the Key West Aquarium to learn about one of the Florida Keys' most impactful marine invaders, the red lionfish. Stop by our outreach table anytime from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to explore lionfish biology, their impacts on native reef ecosystems, and how divers and community members are helping manage this invasive species through citizen science and conservation.
Don't miss our live lionfish dissection demonstrations from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, where you'll get an up-close look at lionfish anatomy and learn what makes this species such a successful invader.
