Thanks for your interest in the Lionfish Collecting and Handling Workshop in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. This workshop will be held at the Caylor Auditorium (703 East Beach Drive, Ocean Springs, MS 39564) on May 7th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The workshop will cover the history of the invasion, lionfish biology, ecological impacts, venomology, how to avoid getting stung, first aid for stings, and recommended techniques for collection, handling and filleting. This workshop is made possible through funding from the US Fish and Wildlife Service and support from the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources manages the Aquatic Invasive Species Coordination, Assessment and Control Plann for state and adjacent marine waters. Please report any lionfish catches or sightings from this area to report.invasive@dmr.ms.gov.
